Teeth in a Day: Who Qualifies for Immediate-Load Implants and Who Should Wait

4 min read · Updated 2026-08-24

"Teeth in a day" means implants are placed and a fixed temporary bridge or crown is attached within about 72 hours, so you never go without teeth. It is well established for full arches and for many single front teeth. It is not for everyone, and the surgeons who do it well are the ones who say no when the numbers do not work.

The test that matters: primary stability

An implant can be loaded immediately only if it is mechanically tight in the bone the moment it goes in. Surgeons measure this as insertion torque (commonly wanting 35 Ncm or more) and sometimes with resonance-frequency devices. If the bone is soft and the implant spins in at low torque, loading it would move it during healing and it would fail. This is decided in the chair, which is why a good clinic tells you that immediate load is the plan "if stability allows," and has a removable fallback ready.

What "leaving with teeth" really means

The temporary bridge is acrylic, fixed, and designed to be gentle. You will be on a soft diet for six to twelve weeks: nothing you have to tear, no crusts, no nuts, no steak yet. It is a real, fixed set of teeth, but it is a healing splint first and a smile second. The final bridge, stronger and more precisely fitted, is made after integration, usually four to six months later.

Questions that reveal a good clinic

What torque do you require before loading? What is the plan if stability is not achieved on the day? Who makes the final bridge and from what material? How is the temporary relined if my gums change shape? The answers should be specific, and they should not be "we always load." Related: surgery day, step by step and health factors that change candidacy.

Where Colombia fits

Immediate-load full-arch is the most common thing Colombian implant centres do for international patients, because it fits a single seven to ten day trip. The criteria are the same as anywhere; the difference is cost and volume. Frequently asked

Is immediate load riskier than waiting?

In well-selected cases with good primary stability, published success rates are comparable to delayed loading. The risk rises when it is done in poor bone, active infection, or in smokers, which is why candidacy matters.

Can I eat normally with same-day teeth?

No. The temporary bridge is for appearance and gentle function. Expect a soft diet for roughly six to twelve weeks while the implants integrate.

What is the fallback if I do not qualify on the day?

A well-run clinic will have a removable temporary denture ready so you still leave with teeth, and will load the implants after healing instead.

About the numbers on this page

All prices are typical 2026 ranges drawn from published US self-pay data and Colombian clinic price lists, not quotes. USD/COP moved from roughly 3,805 to 3,070 during 2026, so dollar figures for Colombia have risen versus older articles. Only a clinic that has reviewed your scan can give you a real number.
