Every implant patient needs a dentist at home for maintenance. If your work was done abroad, the relationship needs a little more setting up, and the way you approach your local dentist decides whether it is easy or awkward. Most dentists will happily maintain well-documented work; what they resist is being handed a mystery. So do not hand them a mystery.
What to bring home
- The implant passport. Brand, model, diameter, length and lot number of every implant. Without this, a future dentist cannot source the right screwdriver or replacement parts. Manufacturers print stickers; make sure they are in your file.
- Imaging. Pre- and post-operative CBCT and panoramic X-rays, as DICOM files or at least high-resolution exports.
- The treatment record. What was done, when, under what anaesthesia, with what grafting material, and what the healing plan is.
- The prosthetic spec. Crown or bridge material, screw- or cement-retained, torque values for the screws, and the digital design file (STL) if the clinic will share it.
- Warranty terms and a contact. In writing, with how remote review works.
How to ask your dentist
Book a regular check-up, bring the file, and say what you want: routine maintenance and a point of contact if something changes. You are not asking them to take responsibility for the surgery. Many dentists are relieved to hear that. If your dentist declines, ask for a referral to a prosthodontist or periodontist; implant maintenance is their core work and they see foreign-placed implants regularly.

A loose crown, a chipped tooth on the bridge, or bleeding gums around an implant are all things a local dentist can manage. Send photos and the clinic's file to the treating clinic too; good ones will advise remotely and, where the warranty applies, either ship parts or arrange a return. Keep every receipt.
