Dentures vs Implants: The 20-Year Cost Nobody Shows You

4 min read · Updated 2026-08-19

A full denture costs a fraction of a fixed implant arch on day one. That is true and it is also the least useful comparison in dentistry, because a denture is a recurring cost and an implant arch is mostly a one-time one. Below is a straightforward 20-year model for one arch, using typical 2026 ranges. It is illustrative, not a quote, and it deliberately leaves out the things that are hard to price: the food you avoided, the photos you did not smile in.

The assumptions

What the chart says

What the chart cannot say

Bone. A denture accelerates ridge loss and each remake fits a smaller jaw. Implants preserve the bone around them. By year 20, the denture wearer may no longer be a straightforward implant candidate; the implant patient still has options. That is the cost line that does not appear on any invoice. Where Colombia fits

At Colombian prices the fixed arch costs less over 20 years than a US denture path does, which changes the question from whether you can afford implants to whether you can afford not to. Frequently asked

Are dentures really remade every 7 years?

Commonly, yes. As the ridge resorbs, relines stop working and the denture is remade. Some people go 10 years; many need it sooner. The model above uses 7 as a typical figure.

Does the All-on-4 bridge need replacing?

The implants are designed to last decades. The bridge itself usually needs servicing or remaking after 10 to 15 years, sooner for acrylic, later for zirconia. The model includes one service at year 10 to 12.

What about hygiene visits?

They apply to every option and are roughly equal, so they are excluded from the comparison. Implant patients should still see a hygienist twice a year.

About the numbers on this page

All prices are typical 2026 ranges drawn from published US self-pay data and Colombian clinic price lists, not quotes. USD/COP moved from roughly 3,805 to 3,070 during 2026, so dollar figures for Colombia have risen versus older articles. Only a clinic that has reviewed your scan can give you a real number. This is educational content, not medical advice.
